OFF - SEASON / by Adrian Bagley

This project OFF-SEASON is somthing i just needed to do.

When i started this body of work i was focusing on life lived by the ocean during our harsh winter months and i had no idea where it would lead me.

The birds were what captivated me more than anything. The birds that remain over winter, seeming to embody a complex range of human emotions. Most of the time no one seems to even notice them in the background of their lives.

Through their behaviour, and my photography, i stared to see an impressionistic narrative of loss, resilience, and the passing of time, it was as though they were a reflection of the human experience, always in motion, always searching for connection with others, but often alone.

I admired their graceful yet transient nature and saw moments of longing, retreat, and quiet turmoil, mirroring our own struggles in life.

Yes it may be grey, wet and moody but this is the genuine Cornwall, one i love and have embraced for 25 years. The emptiness, fragmentation and authentic scenes that surround me everyday may to some look one sided but this is real life here. Just because it does not look beautiful does not mean that the beauty is not there.

I have documented a slice of modern-day Cornwall with the parallels of avian life, showing the perseverance and vulnerability of all things.

I hope you enjoy.
